Do I really need Travel Insurance? The short answer is YES, you do. Traveling to new destinations can be exhilarating, but it’s essential to be prepared for unexpected situations that may arise during your journey. A crucial and often overlooked aspect of planning your trip is securing the right travel insurance coverage for you and your family. At HSM we are here to help make it easy for you.
Travel insurance provides coverage for medical emergencies, ensuring you receive necessary care without incurring significant expenses. This is especially true when you’re abroad, or even out of your home province.
As BC medical coverage or coverage through a Credit Card may fall short, it’s imperative you understand the wordings to ensure you will have no unexpected surprises. Most Travel coverage extended from a Credit Card will be basic and have restrictions (i.e. age limit, max number of travel days & the trip must be paid for on the card).
One common question we receive as brokers is “Can I still buy Travel Insurance if I have any medical conditions?” Yes, you absolutely can but some exclusions may apply. This will all depend on your current health status and length of stability.
Here are a few common coverages for Travel Insurance Policies:
- (Optional) Trip Cancellation & Interruption – Due to Illness, Natural Disasters, and unforeseen circumstances. Non-refundable expenses such as flight tickets and accommodation reservations can add up quickly. Travel insurance safeguards your financial investment by reimbursing these costs if your trip is canceled for an insured loss.
- (Optional) Lost or Delayed Baggage – Travel insurance typically offers compensation for lost baggage or reimbursement for essential items in case of baggage delay.
- (Included) Emergency Evacuation – In situations where immediate medical evacuation is necessary, especially from remote areas or countries with limited medical facilities, travel insurance covers the costs of transport to the nearest adequate medical facility.
You can choose between a Multi Trip Annual Emergency Medical Insurance plan (recommended for 3 or more trips a year) or Single Trip Emergency Medical Insurance plan.
In addition, we also offer a coverage option for Visitors to Canada. Visitors to Canada insurance is a type of travel insurance designed to cover non-residents visiting Canada. The insurance is particularly important for tourist, family visitors, temporary workers, international students, and new immigrants not yet covered by their Canadian public healthcare system.
To give yourself peace of mind do not wait last minute to get your travel insurance. It takes time to find and secure the best coverage for your trip.
